Small Pack Production Drum Utility Operator - 1st Shift

Position Summary:
The Small Pack Drum Utility is responsible for supplying the bulk blended material to the pouch filling machines, along with any equipment required to perform the daily tasks for production (i.e. safety, quality and production procedures). They will perform production activities and operate production equipment in accordance with BRC requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), as well as all Illes SOP’s, Quality standards and time sequences.

Job Functions:

  • Taking direction from the Small Pack Operator, move pallets of bulk blended material into position, remove drums from pallets, and position drum in drum dumper per the schedule. Operate drum dumper to provide steady flow of material to the pouch fillers.
  • Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items, manually.
  • Perform product change over per schedule including any sweep outs and salt purges.
  • Start machines or equipment to begin production processes.
  • Observe work and monitor Human machine interface (HMI), and other indicators to ensure that operators conform to production or processing standards; notify Small Pack Operators of any malfunctions.
  • Collect samples with necessary information for testing.
  • Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances.
  • Stack finished containers on pallets per specifications.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
  • Remove products, machine attachments, or waste material from machines.
  • Transfer finished products, raw materials, tools, or equipment between storage and work areas of plants and warehouses, by hand or using hand trucks or powered lift trucks.
  • Pack and store materials and products.
  • Safely operate production processing, packaging and powered industrial equipment.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area, using hand tools in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Help production workers by performing duties, including monitoring palletizer performance, and issuing LPNs to finished product, supplying or holding materials or tools, cleaning work areas and equipment.
  • Assist the Small Pack Operator or Small Pack Production Packer in the performance of their duties.
  • Maintain appropriate and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Ensure that food safety, legality, integrity and quality standards are maintained at all times.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Management.
  • Regular attendance for scheduled shifts is a requirement of this position

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION
High School or Equivalent or the ability to obtain same within specified time.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 year Food Industry Experience plus minimum 6 months Small Packaging Equipment experience required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to crouch and bend
  • Ability to handle 55 gallon drums after training
  • Ability to lift 100# with assistance
  • Ability to lift 50# continuously
  • Ability to stand continuously
  • Ability to tilt over and pour out up to 500# with assistance
  • Work while standing on a 10 foot stepladder with rails.
  • Bend, stoop, climb, reach above shoulders, crouch, push and pull frequently.
  • Use feet, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders constantly.
  • Work while standing on a 7-step ladder with rails.
  • Temperature variation of 55 to 110 degrees
